Maia and Araujo were scheduled to face off in Austin, Texas, on June 27, but the entire card was pulled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Weeks have passed, however, and the UFC started to build new cards from scratch.
Maia vs Araujo is once again slated for a Fight Night show, multiple sources told MMA Fighting. It’s still unclear where the event will take place.
Maia (17-6-1), a former Invicta FC flyweight champion, is 2-2 under the UFC banner. The 31-year-old Brazilian bounced from a loss to Liz Carmouche with wins over Alexis Davis and Roxanne Modafferi, but then dropped a decision to Katlyn Chookagian in Nov. 2019.
Araujo (8-2) is an ex-Pancrase strawweight champion who made noise in her octagon debut by knocking out Talita Bernardo in a short-notice bantamweight bout in May 2019, moving down to 125 pounds to defeat Alexis Davis less than three months later. “Vivi” lost her most recent UFC bout to Jessica Eye.
